A Regional Capacity Building & Efficiency initiative in the West Midlands is the first of its kind in the country to receive joint funding.

In a new development, the West Midlands RIEP recently approved a bid for £800,000 to drive forward a Business Process Reengineering initiative.  The Board have approved the funding which will benefit the local authorities and fire & rescue services across the West Midlands Region.  This marks the first of its kind in the UK

This will be first successful bid to secure match funding from the West Midlands Centre of Excellence and the West Midlands Improvement Partnership’s Capacity Building Fund for one project and this approval reflects the seamless approach being adopted by the Partnership.

A small team of Business Process Re-engineering experts will deliver a modular learning programme and populate a knowledge database for shared learning across the region.  Provision of an expert panel will be on-hand via a ‘help desk’ to assist in providing reviews of the readiness of each project.

The key objective is to develop a capacity within local authorities and the fire & rescue services across the West Midlands to establish a structured mechanism to share the associated knowledge and learning with partners.

Rob Sykes, the Chair of the West Midlands RIEP and Chair of the Chief Executives Task Force said of the project, “This is a flagship project for the RIEP which represents a major milestone for the integrated partnership.  Drawing on the wealth of BPR knowledge and experience which already exists within local government it has the potential to be of significant benefit to authorities in the Region wherever they may be on the BPR ladder.”

The proposal has been well received nationally with a number of other Regional Centre’s of Excellence expressing an interest to work in partnership with the West Midlands RIEP on this project.  Links are also being explored with the related National Process Improvement Project.
