The Basic Skills Agency's website: www.basic-skills.co.uk has been awarded the ‘See it Right’ logo from the Royal National Institute for the Blind. This signifies a commitment to best practice website accessibility.

The website provides information on the work of the Agency, its publications, and shares practice on 'what works' in literacy and numeracy teaching and learning.

Notes for editors

The Basic Skills Agency is the national development organisation for literacy, numeracy and related basic skills in England and Wales. We are an independent organisation and a registered charity. Our aim is to promote continuing improvement in basic skills. We are mainly funded by the government via grants from the Department for Education and Skills and the Welsh Assembly Government.

By basic skills we mean:

"the ability to read, write and speak English and use mathematics at a level necessary to function and progress at work and in society in general".
