Healthcare professionals with an interest and involvement in the prescribing and administration of medicines are being invited to shape NHS Connecting for Health's electronic prescribing (ePrescribing) programme.
Doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and allied health professionals are all being invited to participate.
Involvement at this stage will be through a series of 12 one - day workshops, held at Birmingham NEC during May and June. Feedback from the workshops will influence the programme as it develops the functional system specification that is intended to guide the development of ePrescribing systems across England.
Each workshop will cover up to four specialities, in recognition of the fact that different specialties will require different things from an ePrescribing system.
This is an opportunity for healthcare professionals to influence the design and development of these systems. ePrescribing is likely to have implications for all healthcare professionals in the future.
Secondary care requirements are the initial focus, and practising healthcare professionals are encouraged to attend to ensure that the current and future requirements for ePrescribing and medicines administration are understood and addressed. The functionality will potentially encompass a wide range of features including decision and knowledge support.
