Norfolk County Council is one of the leading areas in the country for delivering Assistive Technology as a mainstream service and has now been awarded a grant of £1.4m from central government.
The grant amounts to £542,000 for 2006/7 and £913,000 in 2007/8 and will enable the council to continue with its current success but also to deliver a more comprehensive and improved service to more people across Norfolk.
Whilst primarily aimed at supporting older people to live in their own homes for longer, the Preventative Technology Grant (PTG) can also be used to support people under the age of 65.
It offers the county council an opportunity to develop a robust service using assistive technology to support older and younger adults to live at home. It will tie in very closely with the At Home, Not Alone POPPS project and it also is fundamental to us delivering the preventative agenda under the Living Longer, Living Well older people’s strategy.
Chris Mowle, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services said: “ This is great news for Norfolk and the money will be used to help promote health and well being and give people increased confidence.”
The council will be working with a range of partners across Norfolk and aims to develop greater links with the three main emergency services.
Some of this latest funding will also enable the council to work with Voluntary Organisations and Home Improvement Agencies to provide both direct support and advice to people with low or moderate needs.
