Mobile phone text messaging has been launched by Lincolnshire’s library service as an innovative way of letting borrowers know that their items are ready for collection.

When you reserve a library book, talking book, CD, DVD or video you can now choose to be notified by text message , a service which is free of charge.

To take advantage of this, you will need to ask to have your mobile telephone number added to your borrower record.

Councillor Eddy Poll, Executive Councillor for Cultural Services, said: “We make great efforts to ensure that the library service appeals to users of all backgrounds and ages. This new service is part of that drive and brings us right into the 21st century.”

The Library Service hopes to provide other SMS text message and email services in the future.

NOTES TO NEWS EDITORS
Any library user wishing to receive text messages should contact the Library to have details added to the borrower records:

However you choose to contact the Library Service you will need to give them your name, your library ticket number and your mobile telephone number.

Emails
You can, instead, be notified by email. This is also free to library users.

Follow the guidelines for sending a mobile telephone number to send your email address instead, or send your email address as well as your mobile telephone number. This can then be added to your borrower record.

If you send both your mobile number and your email address, please say which method of contact you prefer.
