Three-year contract @ £150k pa on offer

Becta, the government’s lead agency for ICT in education is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer.

The agency is now advertising for the vacant post following a decision made by current Chief Executive, Owen Lynch in October last year to step down at the end of March 2006.

The Department for Education and Skills has engaged leading executive search and management assessment firm, Saxton Bampfylde Hever to find suitable candidates to fill the post.

The position is for three years and comes with a salary of £150,000 per annum, plus pension.

The advert says that "experience in education or in ICT would be helpful but are not essential."

They are looking for someone with "significant" board experience and "an understanding of the UK education system and the levers for effecting change; also a commitment to the potential of ICT in education, to raising standards and to equal opportunities."

Applications for the post will close at noon on Friday 24 February 2006.

Andrew Pinder, the government's ex e-Envoy was recently appointed the Chair of Becta.

Owen Lynch was appointed the Chief Executive of Becta on its inception in 1998 by the then Education Secretary, David Blunkett.
