Coventry University is to join the wireless revolution when it launches its latest applied research centre in computing.
The future of computing technology lies away from the desktop and towards small networks of intelligent, wireless systems. Computers need to be able to be accessible and reflect the needs of the user to enable access when and where it is needed.
The work of the Cogent Computing Applied Research at Coventry University will focus on the application of wireless sensor networks to a variety of areas including transportation, environmental monitoring, agriculture and horticulture, building and civil engineering and industrial control.
Other areas of research will be the use of graphics and its central role in a range of applications from games to mobile phones and pervasive devices.
The Centre will also investigate the development and use of novel educational learning environments such as web-based distance learning and tutoring systems, and finally, the impact wireless technology will have on computer games.
Dr. Elena Gaura, Director of the Cognet Computing Applied Research Centre, said:
"The purpose of the launch is to introduce leading academics and companies to the research and consultancy elements of the new centre. We hope to foster new collaborations and to incubate new ideas in pervasive computing research and its commercial applications."
