North Wiltshire District Council has been awarded a prestigious logo for making the council website accessible to all.

The Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) has awarded the website the ‘See it right’ logo, recognising the work that has been done to make the council’s website accessible to all users.

North Wiltshire District Council is only the 8th local authority to receive this important recognition. The RNIB award the logo, which can be displayed on the council’s website, for commitment to best practice website accessibility.

Web Content Manager, Julie Arthurs says, We have worked really hard along with our consultants, Vamosa, so that our web site meets important accessibility standards. We have worked to ensure that the Council website can be viewed by as many people as possible and the RNIB ‘See it right’ logo provides prestigious recognition of that work.”

The Lead member for Customer Focus, Cllr David Evans, says, We are all delighted to be able to show the ‘See it right’ logo on our website. It represents the council’s commitment to improving council services. We are working towards providing as many services as possible electronically and it is important that this technology can not only be accessed but also used by all.”

A website is considered "accessible" if anyone can use it regardless of their abilities or the technology they use.

The RNIB awards the ‘See it Right’ logo to websites that have been evaluated and are recognised for reaching the required standard. Displaying the ‘See it right’ logo on a website means that users can be confident that they can access a website regardless of their abilities or the technologies they use.

Developed over three years by RNIB, the See it Right checkpoints are taken from the Website Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines, published in 1999 by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The WAI guidelines are the globally accepted standard for website accessibility.
