Premier Ed Stelmach will highlight Alberta’s competitiveness as manufacturers and oil sands suppliers from across Canada and around the world meet to discuss the latest technology and supply opportunities in the oil sands.
From March 23 to 25, more than 400 national and international delegates will gather at the 10th National Buyer/Seller Forum in Edmonton. Discussions will include how oil sands companies are succeeding and moving forward in this challenging economic climate, and how they can be part of high value supply contracts.
“Despite global economic challenges, Alberta continues to offer significant investment opportunities, particularly in the oil sands sector,” said Ted Morton, Minister of Finance and Enterprise. “New opportunities such as maintenance contracts and more efficient technologies have increasingly come to the forefront. Some companies are taking full advantage of these opportunities.”
More than $13 billon was invested in the oil sands in 2009 with $15 billion forecast for 2010.
“This event brings together key industry players who can share first-hand knowledge on the state of the oil sands industry,” said Brian McCready, Vice President, Alberta Division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. “It’s also a great chance to network and build mutually beneficial business alliances. Over the past 10 years, billions of dollars in oil sands equipment and service contracts have been signed with Alberta and national suppliers.”
Under the theme The Maturing of the Oil Sands, Premier Stelmach will speak about the Competitiveness Act (Bill 1) as well as long-term sustainable energy development at a reception and dinner March 23. Dr. David Emerson, Chair of the Premier’s Economic Council, will provide an update on the work of the council, which is charged with identifying long-term strategies for a sustainable Alberta economy. Other forum presenters will focus on supply chain strategies, CO2 management techniques, and oil sands buyers’ procurement policies and processes.
The National Buyer/Seller Forum, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is Canada’s premier oil sands supply chain development conference. More information is available at www.nationalbuyersellerforum.ca
