Responding to today’s BBC report on potential job losses at local councils across the UK, Des Speed, CEO of Lagan Technologies, the global leaders in government to citizen (G2C) technology, said:
“Our experience of working as a technology partner with 120 local authorities throughout the UK is that it is possible to reduce costs, improve services and achieve productivity gains of 20% without necessarily losing staff. One of the difficulties organisations under budgetary pressure face is the struggle to achieve the holy grail of cutting costs whilst safeguarding jobs and services. We implement technology that cuts unnecessary paperwork, speeds up the process of dealing with requests and in many cases actually creates jobs while reducing cost.”
Lagan Technologies innovations include case management software, systems for managing avoidable contact and mobile applications, including Citizens Connect, a free phone-based application that enables residents to pinpoint local problems such as graffiti, broken street lights, potholes and more via a photo with a GPS reference and report them direct to the council official responsible for dealing with the request.
