At West Somerset Council’s meeting on Wednesday, February 24, councillors and members of the public heard how the council has achieved a balanced budget, despite the recession and tough financial climate.
At the meeting, councillors also pledged funding to introduce the premier recycling service, known as SORT IT Plus, in 2012 subject to agreement that all of Somerset’s district councils sign up to the scheme.
The authority identified a package of measures to close the budget gap by £926,000 whilst continuing to support its priorities, which are housing, community, environment, and economic development and tourism.
The 3% increase on the district’s element of council tax equates to a rise of £3.87 per year for a Band D property, with tax rising from £129.03 to £132.90 per annum.
