The Mental Capacity Act 2005 Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA DOLS) came into force in England on 1st April 2009.
The safeguards provide legal protection for vulnerable people who may be deprived of their liberty in a hospital or care home.
Local authorities have a statutory responsibility for administering the MCA DOLS at a local level, so it is important that your employees know about them and are aware of their legal obligations.

The course is designed for all employees involved with adult social care, in particular the care of those in hospital or care homes.
What's covered?
Upon completion learners will be able to:
1. describe Deprivation of Liberty in the context of mental health
2. identify the role of DoLS and the reasons for changes in legislation
3. identify the roles and duties of the PCT and LA
4. describe the steps required for DoLS authorisation
