As Wales prepares to welcome it's returning Olympic heroes, Alun Ffred Jones, Wales' Sports Minister and Jane Hutt, Childrens' Minister are urging children and young people to follow our golden sportsmen and women, ditch the couch potato lifestyle and become more active.

Alun Ffred Jones said:

The twelve Welsh athletes in Beijing are amongst the best in the world, and while most people will never reach the their peak of perfection, I hope they will inspire more people to become active and take up sports. Being active and participating in sports have many positive spin offs - for health and well being and from a social point of view as well.

Children’s Minister Jane Hutt said:

Wales’ Olympic heroes are exceptional role-models our young people. Their strength, determination and desire for glory set a fantastic example for all of our learners – encouraging them to strive to succeed academically and in their daily lives.
