The EU and China held discussions on combating climate change on 18 August 2008 in Paris at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

A meeting on combating climate change, part of the bilateral consultation mechanism between the European Union (EU) and China and under the EU-China Partnership on Climate Change launched in 2005, was held at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Paris on 18 August 2008. This meeting of experts was attended by the European Commission and the upcoming Czech Presidency of the EU.

The delegations were chaired by Brice Lalonde, French ambassador responsible for negotiations on global warming, and Qingtai Yu, special representative for the People's Republic of China on climate change negotiations. The meeting enabled the two delegations to present their latest policy developments on combating climate change and discuss their deepening cooperation in the face of this global challenge ahead of the next EU-China summit, which will take place in Lyon on 1 December.

The discussions have also enabled a review of the progress of international negotiations, on the eve of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Climate Change in Accra from 21 to 27 August 2008 and in the run up to the Conference of Parties in Poznan on 1 December.
