AN AMBITIOUS £100m regeneration scheme has again been shortlisted for the finals of a national award.

Mandale Park is one of four finalists in the Housing Led Project of the Year category of Regeneration and Renewal magazine awards.

The four-phase project, being delivered by Stockton Borough Council, Barratt Newcastle, Haslam Homes, NomadE5 Housing Group, Tristar Homes Ltd and the local community, will create around 800 affordable modern new homes for rent, shared ownership and shared equity.

The project, which started in 2004, is already nearing the half way stage with more than 400 new homes already built as well as the completion of the £1 million Linear Park including football pitches, cycleways, high quality landscaping and public art.

Mandale Park was previously shortlised for the Housing Led Project of the Year category in 2007.

Mr James Collier, of Little Ross Bungalows, said: “It’s unbelievable, the regeneration has vastly improved the area. We all know each other and it’s a very friendly place. There should be a good community spirit. I hope this new home will make a difference to my life.”

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community safety, said: “It’s great to see Mandale once again being shortlisted for national recognition. The scheme has brought about a massive change to the look of the estate with a positive impact on people’s quality of life.

“Being shortlisted recognises the hard work of everyone involved in the scheme and is a great example of how to create sustainable mixed tenure estates. It’s good to see despite the credit crunch the development continues to be popular with both Barratt and Haslam Homes continuing to sell family properties.”

The winner of the award will be announced on September 18 in London.
