Northamptonshire County Council is seeking the views of the public in helping form new policies on the future of social care in the county.

Anyone with views on how social care should be run in the future is invited along to a meeting of Northamptonshire County Council’s adult social care and health scrutiny committee on September 3.

All care providers and voluntary agencies working in the care sector have also been asked to attend the debate on the Government consultation document entitled ‘The case for change – why England needs a new care and support system’.

Committee chairman Cllr Jonathan West said: “Society is going through a massive change and the proportion of older people in our society is growing.

“It is clear that the current system of providing care, not just in Northamptonshire but across the country, will need to change if adequate support is to be provided for those in need.

“The Government is engaging the public and key stakeholders to consider the core issues and to inform the development of a new care and support system. And this is why it is key that people in Northamptonshire have their say on this very important issue, which affects every one of us.”

Some of the key themes to be debated include the issue of what the balance of responsibility for social care should be between the family, the individual and the Government.

Another subject, which is central to the discussion, is on whether the social care system should be the same for everyone or whether support should vary depending on the type of care needed.

The meeting will be held in the council chamber at County Hall on Wednesday, September 3 from 10am.

Anyone who is interested in attending or making a comment or statement at the meeting should contact, Robin Parr on 01604 237363 or Breda Carter on 01604 237745 by 5pm on Tuesday, September 2, to enable relevant arrangements to be made.
