Funding for transport, housing, regeneration and skills need to be prioritised and the region is being asked by Government to balance aspirations for investment against the level of funding available.

The Regional Assembly has welcomed the continued opportunity to have an influence on investment priorities in the South West, and that Government recognised the success of the first round of advice which took place three years ago.

The Regional Funding Advice (RFA) exercise will cover funding allocations for transport, housing, economy and skills. The South West Regional Assembly will be working with the South West Regional Development Agency to submit the region’s priorities for investment and funding for the period up to 2019. The Government have request that the advice be submitted by the end of February 2009.

The challenge for the region is to address the many aspirations within the South West within the funds available. The Assembly will be working with stakeholders and other organisations to prepare the advice with the main focus being to deliver the region's aims in the region’s planning, transport and economic strategies.
