Victims of rape, domestic violence or sexual abuse have been given a boost to help their efforts to rebuild their lives with London Councils providing £6.2 million to organisations giving them support, advice and counselling.

London Councils’ Grants Committee has used £4 million to commission 10 organisations to provide support to women affected by domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse through drop-in centres and outreach work. A further £2.2 million is being used to commission seven organisations to provide counselling and psychotherapy support to victims.

Among the groups to receive funding is Women and Girls Network which has been awarded £451,171 to expand their telephone helpline service to run four days a week, develop a new information website and provide outreach workers.

Solace Women’s Aid will receive £571,163 to provide drop-in and outreach support to women aged 16 and over who have been subjected to rape, domestic violence or sexual abuse as an adult or a child.

Eaves Housing for Women will receive £692,899 to offer people support from specially trained counsellors and those who have been the victims of abuse, rape or domestic violence in the past.

Chairman of London Councils Grants Committee, Councillor Paul McCannah, said: “The emotional impact of rape, domestic violence and sexual abuse can have far reaching effects on the victims. It is important that they are given as much support and advice as possible so they can piece their lives back together.

“The package of funding we have agreed will ensure that anyone affected by any of these issues will be able to receive the help they need during a hugely traumatic time in their lives.”
