The demand for more comprehensive ways of transmitting information and services to citizens has been growing steadily. Historically, the public sector has had some difficulty meeting these demands creating a sizable gap between citizen demands and the services and information being provided. In response to this eGovernment systems have been designed and implemented in an attempt to meet the varying needs of citizens from across Europe. This has been met with relative success creating a foundation and a framework for the years to come.
However, due to the lag between technological change and the rate of adoption in public institutions there are many areas identified for improvement. Governments have recognized the importance of working with the private sector specifically with respect to implementing IT solutions. However the process to facilitate this relationship is perceived as being extremely lengthy and complicated. Technological deployment in any organisation is complex but more so in the public sector. ICT executives have to balance conflicting goals and agendas while at the same time look out for the scalability issue. The Gov IT 2008 Summit highlights the importance of efficiently and effectively working and building relationships with the private sector in order to overcome these obstacles.
The GOV IT 2008 Business Summit will facilitate the interaction between high-calibre solution partners and IT executives from local, state and central pan- European governments; thus helping to bridge the gap between what the consumer demands and services provided by public organizations. This business summit will address how to use eGoverment to effectively provide services for its citizens as well as the transformation of the public sector.
