Iain Wright, Member of Parliament for Hartlepool, will be visiting the The Local off-licence on Elwick Road this Friday to give his support to the CitizenCard, No ID,No Sale! Campaign.
The No ID, No Sale! Campaign is aimed at stopping underage young people from purchasing alcohol and tobacco. The campaign is active in more than 100,000 retailers nationwide and is aimed at creating a culture in which young people expect to be asked to prove their age, and in which retailers accept only the correct forms of ID.
Iain says:
“Underage drinking can cause many problems. In the Burn Valley area of town, it often leads to anti social behaviour. It can result in young people causing damage to property and making the local park a no-go area for residents after dark. It can also lead to increased violence, making the young people themselves less safe.
I am holding a coffee morning in the Burn Valley area on Saturday morning and I know that many residents who come to see me will be concerned about anti-social behaviour and underage drinking.
“I am supporting the No ID, No Sale! Campaign as I think we as a town should doing all we can to prevent under age drinking.”
