Coalition cuts could make it impossible for Britain to conduct Libyan Operation, say MPs
With drastic cuts following a debt of £39 billion in the defence ministry, Britain’s parliamentary defence committee has warned that it would be near impossible for the country to launch overseas operations such as the one over Libya last year.
EU-India Summit – A Partnership For Prosperity
The European Union and India will hold their 12th annual summit in New Delhi on 10th February 2012. The EU will be represented by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and by European Commission President José Manuel Barroso. The EU Trade commissioner, Karel De Gucht will also attend the summit. The Republic of India will be represented by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna, Trade Minister A. Sharma and National Security Adviser, S.S. Menon.
EU Development Cooperation With Burma/Myanmar
The European Commission has been providing development assistance to Myanmar (Burma) since 1996, and to the tune of €174 million. Bilateral relations are framed by the EU Council Decision which imposes sanctions on individuals and entities, import restrictions, and restrict the scope of development cooperation to human rights, democracy, governance, conflict prevention, civil society, health and education, poverty alleviation and environmental protection.
Commissioner Piebalgs To Visit Burma/Myanmar To Pledge New Support For Democratic And Economic Reform
From 12–14 February, European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, will visit Burma/Myanmar. In response to the impressive reform agenda which began to take shape there after the new civilian Government took office, he will announce a new €150 million assistance package to support democratic reforms and inclusive development in the country.

Christina Fernandez, the Argentine president, has announced that Argentina will make a formal complaint to the United Nations over Britain’s “militarisation” of the Falklands. In a speech to MPs and veterans of the Falklands war, she accused Britain of colonialism.

Commission Clears Acquisition Of Joint Control Of Maxam By Advent And A Group Of Individuals
The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of joint control of the Spanish company MaxamCorp Holding S.L. by US based Advent International Corporation and approximately 110 individuals including Maxam's current managers, technical experts, other employees and co-investors. The Commission examined the vertical links created by the proposed transaction and concluded that the merged entity would continue to face sufficient competition.
