New Statesman New Media Awards 2003

The winners of the New Statesman New Media Awards, in association with SclumbergerSema, were announced with much excitement on Wednesday 16 July.

The event was hosted by Philippa Forrester and a keynote speech was given by the Right Honourable Charles Clarke, MP. The awards celebrated the achievements of many organisations who have made innovative use of new media technology to improve public life.

Judges selected winners from six categories and based their decisions on three key criteria; innovation, efficiency and accessibility. The winners were:

Best School Internet Project (secondary)
King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys

Best school internet project (primary)
Saint Ambrose Barlow School

Best e-government project
Essex Grid for Learning

Best e-government project
Kid Smart

On the move
Test Valley Borough Council

Contribution to civic society
Perfiliate Technologies.

News of the safe return of internet runaway, Shevaun Pennington, gave the event an added poignancy. Both Phillippa Forrester and Charles Clarke commended the work of projects, like KidSmart, who work towards improving the safety of children on the net.
